Key terminology

E2EDM Technology Object - any entity, the data on which are used for implementation of technology functions

Data - information on the current, climatic and expected state of marine environment in the digital electronic form. Metadata - data about data

Local Data System – data (metadata) sets, data storage systems, computer and telecommunication facilities of an organization (centre).

Data Source - an abstraction providing the interface between a local data system and the system of distributed information resources. Data source is implemented by Data Provider.

Information Resource – a data(metadata) set generated by a data source from the local data system and available for the technology services.

Information Resource Instance - a data (metadata) subset representing a logical unit of an information resource, treated as a whole unity when being subjected to the processes of description, navigation, access and user delivery.

Service - software implementing a wide range of data handling, processing and representation functions within the distributed information resources system

Data Exchange Protocol - specifications regulating exchange between local data systems and technology services, and between services. It consists of data request and data response components.
